The bodies of two swimmers who went missing were found near Grand Bend on Saturday, as reported by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Lambton County.
The first body retrieved was a 66-year-old woman from London, Ont., who was last seen at a dock on a property on Canal Street in Grand Bend on Friday afternoon. Members of the underwater search and recovery unit along with the Lambton Marine Unit discovered her body in the Ausable River around 1:45 p. m. on Saturday, according to an OPP release.
A second swimmer, a 36-year-old man from Scarborough, Ont., was located deceased in Lake Huron at Pinery Provincial Park. This individual was reported missing at the beach around 3 p. m., and his body was found at 8:20 p. m.
Police have not publicly released the names of those who passed away.
The OPP’s aviation unit, joint rescue coordination centre, Sarnia Fire, and wardens at Pinery Provincial Park assisted with the search efforts.
These incidents follow another tragedy earlier this week at Pinery beach, situated on Lake Huron’s southeast shore about 60 kilometres northeast of Sarnia.
On Thursday, beachgoers discovered the body of a 28-year-old from Scarborough after nearly a day-long search. The police have not disclosed that person’s name either.
