Two men have been taken into custody regarding the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy in Pickering, Ont., three years ago.
According to Durham Regional Police, the suspects were identified after an extensive investigation, with one man arrested on Tuesday and another earlier Wednesday.
The incident happened on June 18 near Valley Farm and Kingston roads. Emergency responders arrived around 9:40 p. m.
Upon arrival, police discovered Anthony Dixon, age 17, who had been shot. Officers and paramedics tried to save him, but their attempts were futile and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dixon’s family remembers him for his “banter, his silliness (and) his smile in the morning.”

Story continues below Since the shooting, police have pursued every avenue possible to determine who is responsible. Fawaz Sheikh, 22, from Ajax has been charged with one count of second-degree murder related to Dixon’s death. A second suspect cannot be named due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act as they were a minor at the time of the incident. The individual from Pickering is now 19 and faces a charge of second-degree murder. Both men are currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing. More on Crime More videos James describes Anthony as a Grade 11 student at Pine Ridge Secondary School who was always a good kid. “He did everything a normal 17-year-old was supposed to do,” he mentioned. Anthony enjoyed listening to music, playing basketball and video games, spending quality time with friends and family, including his girlfriend. The father shared that he and his wife often relied on Anthony for picking up their three younger sons from school or babysitting them. “He was everybody’s world; he made everything work,” said Dixon at that time. “Without him, nothing works.” The police investigation remains active and anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to the homicide unit at 1-888-579-1520 extension 5421.
