Seventeen men, including two from Surrey, have been taken into custody by Peel Regional Police, facing a total of 106 criminal charges linked to the ongoing extortion issue affecting the South Asian community in the Peel Region of Southern Ontario.

Authorities suspect that most of those arrested are connected to an international criminal organization called For Brothers and believe this group is operating in Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon, and British Columbia, with connections to California.

“Overall, the 17 accused are tied to 24 incidents. Of these, investigators have associated 16 violent events with For Brothers, which include arson and multiple shootings involving a total of 324 rounds fired,” stated a Peel Police press release on Monday (May 25).

“In one case, investigators claim two of the accused were involved in a shooting and arson at a home in Caledon (Ontario), followed shortly after by another shooting targeting a business in Brampton.”

Ravinder Singh from Surrey, aged 25, faces two counts of conspiracy related to discharging a firearm. Meanwhile, Jashanbir Singh, also from Surrey and aged 21, is charged with assault and extortion. The police did not confirm if these two individuals are connected to For Brothers.

A joint operation that started in December 2025 involved Peel Regional Police along with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC).

The Surrey Police also provided “intelligence and shared information” with Peel Regional Police as noted by Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton.

No charges related to extortion-related violence have been filed against any of the men in Surrey as confirmed by Surrey Police on Tuesday (May 26).

Chief Nishan Duraiappah from Peel Regional Police commented that “These arrests reflect the coordinated efforts of Peel Regional Police along with our law enforcement partners across jurisdictions to disrupt these networks and hold those responsible accountable. Extortion is not limited to one area but connects both nationally and internationally. Tackling it requires strong cross-border collaboration and intelligence-sharing among agencies. We understand the fear this has caused particularly within the South Asian community and we remain committed to ending these crimes while keeping our communities safe.”

Six of those charged may face “immigration action” following their court proceedings.

Additionally, CBSA detained six individuals: three were removed from Canada; two remain in custody; while one was released under conditions by the Immigration and Refugee Board.

Erin O’Gorman, president of Canada Border Services Agency said: “The Canada Border Services Agency works alongside law enforcement partners to fight against extortion and safeguard communities across Canada. Our efforts consist of sharing intelligence, conducting investigations, making arrests, detaining individuals who aren’t admissible due to engaging in extortion-related activities. As of May 7, 2026 we have initiated 446 immigration investigations resulting in issuing 118 removal orders for various reasons for inadmissibility as well as enforcing 55 removals.”

The individuals charged include Jashanbir Singh (21) from Surrey BC; Ravinder Singh (25) from Surrey BC; Iqbal Singh Bhagria (25) from Brampton ON; Dilawarpreet Singh (26) from Brampton ON; Prabhdeep Sohal (22) from Brampton ON; Ajaydeep Singh (29) from Brampton ON; Rajan Singh (28) from Barrie ON; Akashdeep Singh (24) from Norval ON; Mandeep Singh (21) from Brampton ON; Navroop Singh (24) from Brampton ON; Amritjot Singh (22) from Brampton ON; Guneet Guneet (27) from Brampton ON; Mohinder Singh (30) from Brampton ON; Rajan Singh(28 )from Barrie ON ; Jashanpreet Singh(22 )from Bramton ON ; Sukhwinder Singh(32 )from Bramton ON ; Gautam Gautam(22 )from Manteca CA.
