Five people were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after a three-vehicle accident in Elgin County on Thursday evening, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Emergency crews arrived at the intersection of John Wise Line and Fairview Road around 6:15 p. m.
“Sad to say, tonight.. we had a three-vehicle collision at this intersection, John Wise Line and Fairview Road,” OPP Const. Jeff Beaumaster said in a video posted from the scene.
Authorities reported that a pickup truck collided with an SUV before hitting another SUV that was stopped at the intersection.
“These two vehicles collided and then struck the vehicle that was parked at the intersection,” Beaumaster said, adding that five people were in the first SUV, all of whom were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The pickup truck’s three occupants were also sent to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. The two individuals in the second SUV did not require hospitalization and “may have sustained very minor injuries,” he stated.
The cause of this crash is still being investigated.
The intersection will be closed for several hours while investigators assess the scene. John Wise Line is closed from Centennial Road to Sunset Road, while Fairview Road is shut down from Southdale Line to Fruit Ridge Line.
