This vacation spot is definitely worth your time! If you love soft sandy beaches and gorgeous sunsets, make sure to visit Port Elgin. This delightful town boasts 3 km of beautiful sandy shores, a historic downtown area, and lovely views.

Located almost three hours from Toronto, Port Elgin is recognized as a “vacation town” by The County of Bruce. It’s known for being one of the top getaway spots in southwestern Ontario, with the beaches being its biggest draw.

There are several beaches to explore in Port Elgin-six in total-with Main Beach being the most popular.

“A beach destination since the early 1900’s, with one visit you’ll understand why these white sand beaches and our harbour are one of Ontario best kept vacation secrets,” shares Visit Port Elgin.

This beach can get quite busy during summer, but there are two nearby locations that offer more peace and quiet.

Gobles Grove and Shipley Beach are lesser-known gems but provide a perfect beach escape.

Shipley Beach is smaller and feels more secluded while Gobles Grove is famous for its shallow and clear waters.

According to Port Elgin’s tourism website, their town is famous for “world-famous sunsets,” making it an ideal spot to catch them.

The town’s Northshore Park and waterfront areas also offer great places to relax and take in the sights.

“Rest awhile on lakeview benches from Northshore Park, along the harbour path and to the beach,” shares the town. “Or, bring a blanket or lawnchair and lounge on the grassy areas (not, however, the dune grass areas!) while taking in the view.”

But there’s much more than just outdoor fun here!

You can enjoy numerous restaurants, shops, and charming places to stay for a fantastic weekend getaway.

If you’re looking to make the most of those lovely summer days in Ontario, now you know where to head!
