A BMW was taken into custody after reportedly being clocked at 184 km/h on the QEW in Oakville.

The vehicle belonged to the driver’s father, as stated by the Ontario Provincial Police on X.

According to the OPP, officers were carrying out stationary speed checks on the Toronto-bound QEW near Dorval Drive at around 10 p. m. on Friday, August 14.

A blue BMW was pulled over for allegedly traveling at a speed of 184 km/h, according to the OPP.

A 26-year-old man from Oakville has been charged with stunt driving.

His driver’s license is suspended for a period of 30 days.

“Dad’s vehicle impounded for 14 days,” noted the OPP.

In Ontario, stunt driving is defined as going 50 km/h or more over the limit where it exceeds 80 km/h, or at least 40 km/h over when the limit is set at 80 km/h or lower.

Motorists driving at speeds of 150 km/h or higher on any road can face stunt driving charges under the Highway Traffic Act. This applies throughout the province, including highways with limits of up to 110 kilometers per hour.

Stunt driving also covers actions like blocking other vehicles from passing, deliberately cutting off another car, or intentionally getting too close to another vehicle, pedestrian, or fixed object.

The chance of fatality or serious injury increases by eleven times in crashes occurring at speeds exceeding a limit of 100 kilometers per hour compared to collisions happening within that limit (2013-2017 Ontario data).

The principles of physics apply universally when it comes to speeding. Higher speeds extend braking distances and reduce visibility, making it tougher to respond swiftly to changing road conditions.
