Gerald Joseph Ossibens

Gerald Joseph Ossibens, age 76, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on January 6, 1950.
Gerald was a true nature lover who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. More than anything else, he valued the special times spent outdoors and at home with his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife Marilyn Ossibens. He also leaves behind a large family that includes son Russell Ossibens (Tanya Legarde); daughters Karen Ossibens (Vernon Shebagabow), Michelle Ossibens (Frank Desmoulin), Jamie Lee Ossibens (Ryan Bolduc), Catherine Ossibens (Joe Towegishig), Alexis Taylor (Ashley Taylor), and Ashley Ossibens (Mitch Olesko). Additionally, he is remembered by siblings Clara Fisher and Gertrude Chapais.
Gerald was preceded in death by his brother Gilbert Legarde, Mac Legarde, Jackie Legarde, and sister Riva Legarde. We find comfort knowing they have reunited.
While we are heartbroken over his passing, we take solace in the memories he created and the love that binds us together.
A funeral service for Gerald will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 11:00 am in St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longlac, led by Rev. Deacon Michael Robinson. Interment will follow at Longlac Cemetery where Gerald will be laid to rest.
A traditional wake will occur at the family home located at 162 Wolf Street in Longlac on Monday August 10, 2026. Family viewing will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm followed by community viewing.
The arrangements have been entrusted to Everest – Westfort Chapel located at 420 West Gore Street in Thunder Bay.
