Peterborough and the Kawarthas are stepping into the spotlight. In an upcoming episode of The Amazing Race Canada, viewers will see some familiar sights, organizations, businesses, and residents as teams race towards their goal.

This episode marks a first for the series as it visits this region during its 12-season run. Tune in on Tuesday, August 11 at 9 p. m. on CTV or catch it streaming on Crave the following day.

The Amazing Race Canada is based on a long-running American series and follows ten pairs of loved ones traveling across the country to gather clues and take part in various challenges. With teams being eliminated after nearly every segment of the race, only one team can win $250,000 in cash along with a round-the-world trip from Expedia and additional prizes.

Produced by Insight Productions and Bell Media, The Amazing Race Canada is hosted by Jon Montgomery-a Canadian skeleton racer who won gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver. He has received two Canadian Screen Awards for his role hosting this reality game show over its twelve seasons.

This season kicked off on July 7 with racers starting their journey in Whistler before hitting ski slopes in Kelowna, participating in rodeo events in Falkland, helping restore areas affected by wildfires in Jasper, learning an intricate disco dance routine in Montréal-and much more.

In episode five titled “We Got The Beaver,” eight remaining teams make their way to Toronto where they face a “u-turn”-a strategic twist that allows racers to vote for another competing team to complete both tasks of a “detour.” Typically during a detour, each team picks just one task out of two options that come with their own advantages and disadvantages.

The Amazing Race Canada contestants race past Peterborough City Hall located downtown Peterborough during the fifth episode of season 12 which was filmed around Peterborough and Kawarthas between April and May 2026. Throughout this episode pairs will tackle tasks at various locations including The Canadian Canoe Museum, Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre, Kawartha Dairy among others. The teams will then dive into exploring what makes up both regions through three different challenges inspired by classic cottage games like ladder toss.

This episode’s detour unfolds inside Canada’s renowned Canadian Canoe Museum where teams must choose between paying close attention inside or testing their paddling skills out on Little Lake-with those u-turned needing to complete both tasks given earlier decision made regarding them!

Next up contestants venture towards Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre based out near county line looking after rescued snapping turtles before heading over into village known widely called Bobcaygeon where they’ll deliver well-loved snacks such butter tarts & ice cream around town!

Sneak peeks from promotional photos showcase stops including City Hall & Rogers Cove located within downtown area while also highlighting iconic spots like Burleigh Falls!

The local segment concludes when racers rush toward their “pit stop” positioned right next door adjacent to Lock #31 situated amidst historic Trent-Severn Waterway found deep within Buckhorn territory-greeted warmly by Montgomery himself alongside former Chief Knott awaiting arrival. Those arriving last may find themselves eliminated entirely from competition altogether!

Shooting took place earlier sometime between April-May this year capturing many memorable moments shared online through social media platforms revealing glimpses surrounding venues showcasing all places visited around region touched upon above!

A month prior kawartha NOW discovered local tourism officials had been sworn under secrecy pertaining details surrounding said episodes planned theme until finally breaking news released officially July twenty-ninth granting everyone access new insights coupled promotional images shared broadly thereafter !
