A man has been charged after a security guard was fatally shot at a Pickering casino in 2023, according to Durham police.
A 20-year-old is facing a second-degree murder charge related to the death of Michael Ferdinand, who was shot while working at Pickering Casino Resort.
Police discovered Ferdinand suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after 5 a. m. on October 9, 2023. He was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away later.
This year, authorities identified a 17-year-old boy as the suspect and issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest. His name and image were shared in November and December of that year but have since been removed due to him being a minor at the time of the incident.
The suspect was apprehended earlier this month in Saskatoon following “an extensive investigation” that spanned multiple regions and was taken into custody by Durham police on Wednesday, as stated in a news release on Friday.
The accused reportedly has no permanent address but is believed to have connections to Toronto’s Jane and Finch area.
