September 19, 1968 – July 23, 2026

Mrs. Sandra Jessie Barkman (nee Harper), age 57 years and a member of Sachigo Lake First Nation, passed away peacefully at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, July 23, 2026.

Sandra was born in Norway House, Manitoba on September 19, 1968. Throughout her life, she worked in various roles, mainly within the Healthcare field. She loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and trapping with her family and friends. Sandra took great pride in the Native traditions and cultural values that were handed down to her. She married Robert Barkman and they shared over 33 wonderful years together until his passing. Her family meant everything to her; she especially adored her grandchildren. The moments they spent together brought her immense happiness. Sandra’s warmth, smile, and generous spirit will be missed dearly, but the memories created with her will always be treasured.

Sandra is survived by her loving children Stanley Barkman, Nancy (Rondell) Mc Kay, twin daughters Darlene Barkman and Esther Brown, Marita Barkman along with stepchildren Karma (Jack Rae), Janelle Barkman and Patterson Harper; grandchildren Jordyn Barkman, Jessie, Jack, Jericho and Jesper Mc Kay as well as Jabriel Barkman, Meagan, Christian and Kadri Brown, Ethereal Barkman; siblings Abbie Osborne, Brian (Ruth Ann) Harper and adopted brother Joey Yellowback.

She is also survived by her father-in-law Eli Barkman; brothers-in-law Derek (Illa) Harper, Wesley (Louisa) Barkman, Carl (Mary) Barkman and Walter (Shannon) Barkman; sister-in-law Evelyn Harper plus brothers-in-law Absolum Mc Dougall and Ernie Knott. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews cousins along with numerous friends also remain.

She was predeceased by her dear husband Robert Barkman; grandson Jovaun Mc Kay; baby Mc Kay , baby Barkman , babies Brown; siblings Mary (Cornelius) Wood , Gabriel “Mike” (Lucy) Harper , John George Harper , Helena Mc Dougall , Bruce (Vanessa) Harper , Stella Mc Dougall ; mother-in-law Delia Barkman ; brother-in-law Eugene “Mark” Osborne ; sisters-in-law Deborah Barkman , Nicole Knott along with several other relatives and extended family.

A Wake Service for Sandra will take place in Thunder Bay on Saturday July 25th , 2026 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at the WESTFORT CHAPEL located at 420 West Gore Street at James. This service will be officiated by Pastor Rodney Martin.

Sandra will then return home to Sachigo Lake First Nation where another Wake will begin Sunday evening in the Sachigo Lake Community Hall. The Funeral Service is scheduled for Monday July 27th , 2026 at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church starting at 1:00pm with Bishop Morris Fiddler presiding over the service. Burial will follow at the Sachigo Lake New Community Cemetery.
