Elva Jane Valcamp passed away on July 21st, leaving us to remember her fondly. She was born Elva Jane Fawcett on March 29th, 1938 in Harewood, New Brunswick. Her husband Ken of 46 years and children Stephen Eyre (Hollee), Michael Eyre, John Eyre (Barb), and Melissa Stone (John) will miss her dearly. She also leaves behind grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Matt, Shenecee Michaela, Kate, Cody, Stevie Jane, Rebecca, Jake, Grayson, Cole, and Zachary. Elva was the fourth of eight siblings and is survived by two siblings: Joyce and Calvin (Sue).
In her younger years, Elva traveled across the country making friends from coast to coast before settling down on a small rural property in North Gower Ontario. She enjoyed a 14-year career with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources that matched her love for nature as well as a 12-year stint at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce where she loved meeting new people.
For fun, she took up hiking and backpacking covering many miles in places like Algonquin Park, Bruce Trail Tobermory, along with trails in Colorado and New Mexico. When carrying heavy packs became challenging, she switched to canoeing and camping in beautiful spots such as Moira River, Salmon River, Madawaska River Dumoine River Lake Superior (keeping close to shore), North Thompson River Bowron Lakes among others.
When she wasn’t hiking or canoeing she found joy in cooking. She took several cooking courses building an impressive collection of regional recipes. However, truth be told; she didn’t really need them-she had a knack for whipping up delicious meals from whatever ingredients were on hand. Planning family dinners for occasions like Christmas or Thanksgiving brought her so much happiness; her childhood years spent in the woods of New Brunswick helped inspire her use of wild plants and berries to enhance her dishes.
Family was always a top priority for Elva. As time went by she grew increasingly active within her Church community where she loved cooking for various luncheons. One joyful moment was when she’d come home with an empty crockpot after sharing food with others. Her faith played an important role throughout her life enriching those around her.

We also express our gratitude to her niece Wendy Bingham who acted as an informal medical interpreter and guide.
The staff at Southbridge Nursing Home’s poppy wing deserve recognition as unsung heroes who cared deeply for Elva over the last four and a half years.
A celebration of life/funeral service will take place on August 7th at 1:00 PM at Kemptville Pentecostal Church located at 1964 County Road 43 Kemptville ON.
If you can’t attend in person the service will be available via live stream on the “kemptville pentecostal church” channel on You Tube.
In lieu of flowers donations made in honor of Elva to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
