In Friday’s 6-4 victory against the Blue Jays, Sandoval didn’t get a decision but had a solid performance, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings without giving up any runs.
He threw only 51 of his 84 pitches for strikes and managed to record six strikeouts while keeping the Blue Jays from scoring. Sandoval left the game with two outs and two runners on base in the fifth inning before Tyron Guerrero stepped in to finish that inning. Although the 29-year-old hasn’t pitched past the fifth inning in any of his three starts with the Red Sox, he has only given up five earned runs while gradually increasing his pitch count each time. Heading into next week’s away game against the Athletics, he holds a 3.21 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and an impressive 13:4 K: BB ratio over 14 innings.
