Sarnia and Point Edward have received their gaming revenue payments for the first quarter from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
This funding is provided to municipalities across the province that host casinos.
Sarnia has been awarded $83,437 for hosting Gateway Casinos Sarnia from April 1 to June 30.
Since its opening in May 1999, Sarnia has received a total of $28,497,414.
Point Edward will receive $420,711, bringing its total to $55,912,074 since Starlight Casino opened in April 2000.
“Revenues from OLG’s Municipality Contribution Agreement allow Sarnia and Point Edward to invest in infrastructure and provide funding for critical community services,” said Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey in a news release. “Provincial revenues from Gateway Casinos Sarnia and Starlight Casino Point Edward will help improve the quality of life for families across Ontario.”
The OLG explained that these payments are calculated using a formula that is consistently applied at all gaming sites in Ontario based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue generated at each location.
Since 1994, host communities have benefited from more than $2.4 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
