Two additional candidates have joined the race for mayor of Mississauga.

With just over four weeks remaining until candidate nominations close for the 2026 municipal election, there are now 10 contenders for the mayoral position in Canada’s seventh-largest city.

Frank Fang, who previously ran in the 2024 mayoral byelection in Mississauga, and Fadi Naami signed up to run this past week. Fang also sought a seat on the Ward 9 council during the 2022 municipal election.

The new candidates add to a lineup that features incumbent Mayor Carolyn Parrish, former mayor Bonnie Crombie-who stepped down in early 2024 to lead the Ontario Liberals-and two current city councillors: Alvin Tedjo (Ward 2) and Dipika Damerla (Ward 7).

David Shaw, Mike Matulewicz, Olivia Gannon, and Amjad Jilani complete the list of candidates officially entered as of Wednesday. Shaw participated in both the 2024 mayoral byelection and ran for mayor in the 2022 municipal election while Matulewicz was among the group of 20 candidates in that same byelection more than two years ago.

The dynamics of the upcoming race took a significant turn eight days ago when Crombie made her candidacy official. This announcement ended months of speculation regarding whether she would aim to reclaim her former role as mayor after serving from 2014 until her departure in 2024.

Crombie’s entry sets up what is expected to be an intense competition among well-known figures like herself, Parrish, Tedjo, and Damerla.

The already intriguing contest for Mississauga’s mayorship is now shaping up to be one of Ontario’s most closely watched elections as voters gear up for Oct. 26.

During Crombie’s tenure as leader, the Ontario Liberals faced a decisive defeat against Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives in February 2025. Later that year, she hinted at potentially running again when she stated she wouldn’t dismiss another shot at being Mississauga’s mayor.

Parrish, who won the June 2024 byelection to take over from Crombie, shared with INsauga. com earlier that she’s looking forward to discussing key issues with her predecessor.

She described such an opportunity as “a fabulous challenge,” adding “I’d love it. We don’t think alike.”

“… I would look forward to a debate with Bonnie Crombie.”

The municipal election is set for Oct. 26. Candidate nominations opened on May 1 and will remain open until Aug. 21 at 2 p. m.
