A man, aged 34, is now facing several charges after a situation unfolded in west London on Tuesday that resulted in a police standoff and the temporary closure of a major road.
Authorities say the suspect entered a store in the 1200-block of Oxford Street West around 10:55 a. m., making threats towards a woman inside while holding a knife. The woman didn’t know him, and fortunately, she was not physically harmed, according to police.
As law enforcement arrived at the scene, the man reportedly entered another business in the same area and allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol.
Police tracked down the armed individual near Hyde Park and Fiddlers Green roads around 11:35 a. m., leading them to close part of Hyde Park Road north of Oxford Street as they negotiated with him.
<p Nearly two hours later, at about 1:45 p. m., he was taken into custody and transported to the hospital by paramedics for minor injuries that were not specified, according to police.
The 34-year-old is set to appear in court in London on Wednesday facing charges that include assault with a weapon, making threats of death or bodily harm, theft under $5,000, failing to comply with a release order, and violating probation terms, as reported by authorities.
