A Brampton mall is set to welcome a new 14,000 square-foot Walmart Supercentre, which is expected to open in 2027.
Earlier this year, INsauga. com reported that the retail giant, which already has five supercentres in Brampton, was considering Bramalea City Centre for its next location. The company shared plans on Wednesday for the upcoming store anticipated to open next year.
The new supercentre will cover approximately 14,000 square feet and will feature Walmart’s complete range of offerings including clothing, home goods, electronics, health and wellness products, seasonal items, a full grocery department with a deli and bakery, along with a Walmart Pharmacy.
“Walmart Canada will become a new anchor tenant in Brampton’s largest shopping destination, enhancing everyday convenience for the surrounding community,” the company states in a release.
No specific opening date has been provided yet; however, the company mentions that the supercentre will open next year in space that was previously occupied by Target and later by Decathlon and Activate – which announced it would be closing on March 31 “due to property redevelopment.”
Planning information available on the City of Brampton website indicates that Walmart plans to make several updates at the mall to prepare for its arrival. This includes renovating the existing interior space and reconfiguring it to align with typical layouts found at other Walmart stores.
The upcoming Walmart Supercentre will be the sixth location in Brampton. It is part of the company’s $6.5 billion investment plan in Canada announced last year, as noted by Shawn Fujiki, Senior Director of Real Estate at Walmart Canada.
Bramalea City Centre General Manager Andrew Butler stated that adding Walmart to the mall’s tenant lineup “will bring value and convenience while enhancing the overall shopping experience at the centre, especially for families who make up most of our customers.”
