People living in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, as well as Halton, Durham, and Niagara regions are being urged to take care as a prolonged heat wave carries on today.

According to Environment Canada, daytime highs are predicted to hit around 30 C, while nighttime lows will stay close to 20 C, providing minimal relief from the heat.

This warning impacts areas such as Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Milton, Burlington, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, Clarington, Hamilton and towns throughout the Niagara Region.

Besides the heat itself, officials mention that these hot and humid conditions might worsen air quality. The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) could reach high-risk levels especially for seniors, young children, pregnant individuals and those with heart or respiratory issues.

Health authorities suggest residents:

Drink plenty of water even if you don’t feel thirsty Limit intense outdoor activities during peak heat hours Find air-conditioned places whenever possible Check in on older adults, neighbors and at-risk family members Be aware of symptoms of heat-related illness like dizziness, nausea, headaches and extreme tiredness

Temperatures are likely to remain high throughout the day with humidity making it feel even hotter in several locations.

Residents should keep an eye on local weather forecasts and air quality updates while taking necessary precautions until cooler weather returns.
