On June 18, residents had the chance to influence the future of transportation in Barrie during the third Public Information Centre (PIC) for the Transportation Master Plan update.
Taking place at Barrie City Hall, this drop-in session allowed attendees to look over the latest recommendations for the long-term transportation network, chat with project team members, and share their thoughts on plans that will shape transportation strategies through 2051.
The master plan serves as a guide for developing roads, transit options, cycling paths, and pedestrian networks to accommodate future growth. The current version was last updated in 2019, and this recent review aims to ensure that Barrie’s transportation system can cater to its expanding population and job market over the next 25 years.
During the meeting, staff provided an overview of the study process, summarized feedback from earlier public information centres, and sought public opinions on the proposed multi-modal transportation network and how future improvements are evaluated. Residents were also encouraged to comment on supportive policy initiatives that will inform upcoming transportation decisions.
This event represented the third round of public consultation for updating the Transportation Master Plan. City officials highlighted how crucial community input is in creating a transportation network that is safe, connected, and sustainable.
