George Adams passed away peacefully at Huronlea Home for the Aged on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026, just a month before his 98th birthday.
He was the loving husband of the late Maxine Farrish (1930-2013).
George is survived by his children Susan Adams, John Adams, Carol Adams & Jose Candanedo and Jean & David Beard.
He was a proud grandfather to Adam Beard and Michelle Ross.
George was a dear brother to Helen (Adams) Edmonds and a brother-in-law to Helen (Irwin) Farrish.
His memory will live on with his surviving first cousins in the Adams and Doig families, as well as with the remaining Whyte and Love first-cousins-in-law families and many nieces and nephews in the Farrish families. He will especially be remembered by his nephew Steve and Donna Adams along with their family.
George was predeceased by his parents Russell Adams & Merle Doig, along with siblings Bruce (1930), Lois (1936), Rae (1997), and various in-laws from the Farrish family including Elmer & Hilda, Jasper & Cherie, Bower, Millie & Don Leader, and Johnstone Farrish.
Born and raised in Howick Township, George farmed there until he turned 70. He served as a veteran during WWII with the Reserve Class C and the 99th Field Battery from 1944 until the end of the war in 1945. He celebrated his 16th birthday at Petawawa Base.
An avid traveler since the 1970s, George began exploring his Scottish roots before joining trips organized by Huron County Cattlemen’s Association. He traveled with friends to every continent including Antarctica. George and Maxine made numerous friends during their travels but particularly cherished their adventures to New Zealand and England. They often hosted international friends across Canada from Vancouver Island to the Maritimes. Fishing trips with buddies across Northern Ontario and Northwest Territories were some of his favorite memories along with many salmon fishing outings to Queen Charlotte Islands.
After retiring from farming in 1997 when they moved into Brussels, George took up woodworking which led him to build furniture like tables and Adirondack chairs as well as BBQ scrapers. He crafted over 2,500 birdhouses! George found joy when articles about his birdhouses appeared in “More Our Canada” magazine and on CBC; even The Times picked up on it-“Not bad for an old farmer from Ontario,” he would say. Proceeds from birdhouse sales went towards Masonic Lodge Prostate Cancer Research Fund totaling nearly $25,000. For more than 25 years, he was an active member of both the Masonic Lodge and Brussels Legion where he loved cooking for their famous Fish Frys.
A visitation will take place for friends and family on Saturday, June 27th from 3-5 pm at Riverside Funeral Home located at 401 Albert Street, Brussels ON.
Interment will follow at Wroxeter Cemetery.
