Dr. Furm Mofford Duncan, Jr. passed away on April 14, 2026, at the age of 88. His wife Jan was at his side.

Furm was born on April 2, 1938, in Loma Linda, California. He grew up in Beaverton, Oregon, where he graduated from Beaverton High School and served as student body president. He then attended Willamette University for his undergraduate studies before moving on to the University of Washington for a Master’s in Nuclear Physics. He later earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Oregon Medical School. After completing medical school, he dedicated two years to the Peace Corps in Bogota, Colombia-an early sign of his commitment to service that shaped both his life and career.

Furm devoted over 40 years to practicing medicine as a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. For more than two decades, he worked at Lower Columbia Women’s Clinic in Longview, Washington before starting Treasure Valley Women’s Clinic in Ontario, Oregon in 1994 where he continued caring for patients for another 20 years. Throughout his career, he estimated that he delivered over 12,000 babies-an incredible achievement that will be remembered by many families across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

In the office, Furm was recognized for being particular and had a colorful sense of humor; yet he earned deep respect for his expertise in medicine and unwavering dedication to his patients.

In 1994, Furm married Jan-the love of his life-whom he affectionately called “Janny.” Together they made their home on a farm in Fruitland, Idaho with his stepdaughter Greta Saum. Furm and Jan loved raising horses and growing grapes while enjoying the stunning sunrises and sunsets Idaho offered. On the farm, you could often find him riding his tractor through the pastures or mowing grass while maintaining the land that meant so much to him. He took great pleasure in caring for the farm grounds-a place where he found both purpose and tranquility. Those close to him-including his grandchildren-lovingly referred to him as “Farmer Furm.”

Outside work hours, Furm enjoyed watching Duke basketball as well as playing golf-hobbies that provided excitement and relaxation alike. He also loved entertaining his grandkids during their visits whether it was at home swimming in the pool or going out bowling or golfing; they always had fun together at Wahooz Family Fun Zone too.

Furm is survived by Jan; his son Dr. Scott (Caitlin) Duncan from South Carolina; daughter Tamara (Eric) Free from Santa Barbara; stepdaughter Greta Saum; stepson Greg (Cory Blystone) Saum from Vancouver; stepson Geoff (Lisa) Saum from Ontario; along with their special dog Sassy. He is also survived by brother Pat (Sheri) Duncan from Deer Valley; sister Nina (George) Cruzado from Park City; along with six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents Hazel and Furm Mofford Duncan Sr.; brother Bob Duncan; son Robert “Rob” Duncan; grandson Parker Duncan.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday June 13th 2026 at eleven o’clock AM at Four Rivers Cultural Center located in Ontario Oregon followed by lunch afterwards. All who knew Furm are warmly invited to join us celebrating this wonderful man’s life.

Furm will be remembered not only for how dedicated he was towards patients but also how steady a presence he provided which profoundly impacted countless families. His life exemplified service compassion enduring love , and an appreciation for simple joys. He’ll be deeply missed by everyone who loved him.

The arrangements are under care of Bowman Funeral Parlor located within Garden City.
