OSHAWA – Police in Oshawa, Ont., are looking for a suspect after a 23-year-old man lost his life following a confrontation outside a Tim Hortons.

The Durham Regional Police Service reported that they responded to an alert on Saturday night about an armed individual and found a young man with severe injuries who was later declared dead at the scene.

Authorities say they discovered that a fight had broken out between two groups of men outside the Tim Hortons in the northern part of the city, resulting in fatal injuries to the victim.

Police initiated a thorough search using canine units and air support for the suspect and several other individuals who fled from the area, but they were unable to find them.

Investigators consider this incident to be isolated and state there are no immediate threats to public safety.

The homicide unit is conducting an investigation, and police are urging anyone who was near 2700 Simcoe Street North between 7:30 p. m. and 9:00 p. m. with any video footage of the incident to get in touch with authorities.

This report by The Canadian Press was first May 10, 2026.
