We are heartbroken to share that Albert Hartholt passed away on April 9, 2026, at the age of 97, surrounded by his family.

Albert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joanna, and his grandson Joel. He is survived by his children, Linda (Tony, deceased) and Ron (Sharon), who carry on his legacy of love. He was a proud grandfather to Kerri (Rob), Dana (David), Luke (Maegan), Ben (Saskia), Jordan, Joyelle and a great-grandfather to Cody, Wesley, Austin, Selah, Joseph, and Ezra.

A curious and determined man, Albert lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed trying new things and loved setting goals while seeking adventure. His interests were diverse; he liked traveling, playing chess and golf, jogging and exploring astronomy. Time spent at his cottage in Muskoka sailing or reading was also dear to him.

Music played a huge role in his life as well. He took pleasure in playing both the organ and piano and sang in various choirs. One memorable experience was with the Liberation Choir during their tour through the Netherlands in 1995 to honor Canadian soldiers’ role in liberating the Dutch people after World War II. Albert remained an active member of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church in Woodbridge for most of his life and continued playing the organ there into his 80s.

At 69 years old, he cycled across Canada with Tour du Canada. Then at age 93, he treated himself to a new red Cadillac and took a solo road trip to Alberta to see his dear sister Bonnie.

He committed himself fully to his work first at Grant Brown Motors where he began washing cars before advancing to sales manager. Later on at Old Mill Cadillac he spent much of his career until retiring in his 80s.

Albert will be remembered for his gentle demeanor and humility along with the integrity he held throughout his life. He often spoke about how confident he felt knowing he’d eventually go Home to be with God. When asked by family members to write something about himself he concluded with β€œAt the end of this story all we can say is that God was Good.”
