Halton Region police have charged an officer from Ottawa regarding an incident that occurred in Oakville, Ont., last week.
According to authorities, shortly before 10:30 p. m. on June 12, a dispute connected to a car crash involving two vehicles resulted in assault charges against Staff Sgt. Walt Lushman, who was off-duty at that time.
Lushman has been released under conditions outlined in an undertaking.
Officials from the Ottawa police stated that the Professional Standards Unit is looking into the situation but did not share any additional information since it is currently in court proceedings.
The department has indicated that Lushman will not be performing any public-facing duties while the investigation is ongoing.
