A police probe into a suspected extortion plot in Markham has resulted in the arrest of three individuals, with authorities believing it may be linked to a potential kidnapping.
York Regional Police reported that officers were dispatched on June 13 to a home close to Prince William Drive and Swansea Road following reports of three masked individuals acting suspiciously. The police claim the suspects approached the residence and insisted on speaking with the intended victim.
Upon arrival, officers found all three suspects outside the house and took them into custody. One suspect was reportedly found in possession of a replica firearm. Further investigation indicated that this incident was part of an ongoing extortion case, leading police to believe someone was being targeted for abduction.
Nineteen-year-old Jerimyah Brown-Watson from Toronto faces charges including conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, disguise with intent, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Two additional suspects, aged 17 and 16, also from Toronto, have been charged as well.
The York Regional Police stated that the investigation is still active and encouraged anyone with information to reach out to the Hold-Up Unit or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
