Jo H. Canada, 89, of Batesville, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021. She was born on December 20, 1931, near Francis, Oklahoma to Andrew and Ruby Patterson Large. She attended schools in Cedar Grove, Byng, and Francis, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in Francis and then went to Draughon Business School for computer training. Jo was a member of Foothills Cowboy Church.
She married Fred Canada on June 19, 1948 in Ada, Oklahoma. Jo lived in Francis and Oklahoma City until 1978 when she moved to Batesville in October of that year. She worked with computers at the Federal Aviation Agency from the early ’60s until her move to Arkansas. While at the FAA, she contributed to setting up pilot medical certification and received an outstanding performance award for her efforts. After relocating to Batesville, she was employed by Citizens Bank, Bank of Cave City, and White River Medical Center before retiring in 1992. Later on, she worked at First United Methodist Church in the Mom’s Day Out Program with toddlers which she truly loved along with all the little ones.
Jo had a deep love for animals and considered her dogs as treasures. Several will be waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling, camping and loved to dance; she often said she planned to dance all the way to Heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred Canada; daughter Linda Jo Stingley; sister Ruby Mae Smith; and grandson Christopher Shouse.
Survivors include son Larry Fred Canada of Tulsa; brother Farrell Large of Lawton; sisters Peggy Harris and Nancy Floyd from Ada; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will take place on Saturday April 3rd at 2:00 p. m., at Cave Creek Cemetery in Batesville with J. R. Smith officiating. Arrangements are handled by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Visitation is set for Friday April 2nd from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
