The unemployment rate in Windsor reached 8.1 per cent in January, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from December’s figure of 7.6 per cent.
This southwestern Ontario city is now tied for the sixth highest rate across Canada.
<p Nationwide, the unemployment rate stands at 6.5 per cent for the first month of 2026.
The statistics released on Friday are seasonally adjusted.
According to Statistics Canada, these numbers can vary widely due to being based on small sample sizes.
Across Canada, manufacturing accounted for most job losses, adding pressure to a sector already struggling with U. S. tariffs over the past ten months.
