Windsor will likely be getting a brand new Homelessness and Dependancy Restoration Therapy (HART) hub, Ontario well being minister Sylvia Jones has introduced.

The challenge is co-led by Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, Home of Sophrosyne and the Windsor-Essex Neighborhood Well being Centre.

It is one in all 18 new hubs throughout Ontario the well being ministry introduced on Monday.

The province beforehand introduced 9 others on Jan. 2.

“Right this moment’s announcement … is a good step ahead in supporting the marginalized residents of Windsor-Essex,” mentioned Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare President and CEO Invoice Marra in a information launch.

“I commend our minister and her colleagues for his or her continued dedication to filling the gaps in psychological well being and dependancy care by means of the augmentation and creation of latest companies.”

The announcement follows a choice by the province in August of final yr to shut down consumption and remedy companies, typically referred to as supervised consumption websites, working inside 200 metres of faculties and licensed child-care centres.

Windsor’s SafePoint had beforehand closed in January of 2024.

The Windsor-Essex County Well being Unit (WECHU) had opened SafePoint at Goyeau and Wyandotte Avenue East in April 2023 after it acquired federal approval to function as an pressing public well being wants web site.

The well being unit had determined to briefly fund it till it might get provincial approval.

However its utility grew to become stalled when the federal government undertook an Ontario-wide assessment of all websites following a capturing close to a CTS web site in Toronto in August 2023.

The choice to ban websites inside 200 metres of faculties and childcare centres prevented SafePoint from ever reopening at its prior location and the well being unit ended its tenancy of the constructing late final yr.

The Canadian Psychological Well being Affiliation Lambton Kent Sarnia will even obtain a HART Hub, in response to the province.
