Strong winds moved through a large part of southwestern Ontario on Friday.
Environment Canada had first released a special weather statement for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, Huron-Perth, Grey-Bruce, and north Wellington County warning of winds that could gust up to 90 kilometres an hour.
This weather statement was later upgraded to a yellow wind warning shortly after 12 p. m., predicting wind gusts reaching as high as 110 kilometres per hour.
The national weather agency had mentioned earlier that rain showers and the possibility of thunderstorms would arrive in the area Friday morning, with strong wind gusts expected near 70 to 80 kilometres an hour.
A cold front was anticipated to move through the region during the afternoon, which could lead to another surge of strong winds exceeding 100 kilometres an hour.
The wind warning was lifted for Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor-Essex shortly after 3 p. m., with the rest of the region following later in the evening.
This yellow alert indicates a moderate impact level. Environment Canada’s color-coded system was introduced in November 2025.
