The agency overseeing Ontario’s law enforcement has wrapped up its investigation into an incident involving Windsor police that took place in September 2025.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified by Windsor police after the event on September 11, which happened during a break-and-enter probe near Walker Road and Cabana Road East.

Officers arrived shortly after 8:30 p. m. and found the suspect sitting in a vehicle located in the garage of the home. Police had to use a taser to get the individual out and put handcuffs on him.

While at the hospital for examination, a Windsor officer overheard a nurse talking about facial fractures. The nurse confirmed to the officer that there was indeed a fracture but wouldn’t share more details due to confidentiality rules. Later, SIU officials got confirmation from a doctor that the suspect had broken his nasal and orbital bones.

SIU Director Joseph Martino mentioned that although the injuries were serious, they weren’t directly caused by actions of the Windsor police.

“There are no reasonable grounds to attribute them to any unlawful conduct on the part of the [officer],” wrote Martino in his decision. “As such, there is no basis for proceeding with criminal charges in this case. The file is closed.”
