Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Raw has revealed a provincial funding of $2,670,525 aimed at reconstructing Arthur Street West (Highway 23) in Harriston, which is part of the Town of Minto.

This investment is part of Ontario’s 2026-27 Connecting Links program. This initiative backs repairs on important municipal roads and bridges that connect communities and promote economic growth in rural and northern regions.

“Good roads are essential to strong rural communities, connecting people to jobs, health care, and markets here at home and around the world,” said MPP Rae. “I will continue to work with our municipal partners to protect our communities and ensure rural Ontario gets its fair share of provincial infrastructure funding.”

The Connecting Links program is overseen by the Ministry of Transportation and funds municipal roads that link provincial highways or international border crossings. This year, over $46 million is being allocated to 21 projects across 20 municipalities.

“Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is making historic investments in highway infrastructure to drive economic growth and protect Ontario,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “By helping municipalities invest in critical road repairs, we’re improving connections across the province and building a stronger, more competitive and resilient Ontario.”

Mayor Dave Turton expressed gratitude on behalf of the town for the provincial support. “On behalf of Council and the residents of the Town of Minto, I would like to sincerely thank the Ministry of Transportation, particularly the Connecting Links Program, for its financial support toward the reconstruction of Arthur Street West in Harriston,” he stated. “This investment will greatly benefit our community. The Town of Minto values its strong partnership with MPP Rae and the Province of Ontario, and we look forward to continuing to work together on future projects.”

Municipalities are encouraged to apply for the 2027-28 Connecting Links funding when applications open later this year.
