The police chief in Chatham-Kent is supportive of a review into police corruption happening across Ontario.

This review was initiated after seven Toronto police officers were arrested last week on corruption charges related to violent organized crime.

Chatham-Kent (CK) Police Chief Kirk Earley shared with CK News Today that the CK police have started gathering necessary documentation and will “fully participate” in the review.

Chief Earley emphasized that CK police have consistently upheld proper oversight and ongoing evaluations, implementing solid systems, policies, and mechanisms to enhance service quality.

He mentioned that the department is “remains steadfast” in its duty to prevent any chance of corruption from taking hold, noting that this review will add another layer of accountability.

The chief also expressed that the review serves as a chance to highlight the strong integrity that his officers exhibit daily and to reaffirm their dedication to ensuring the people of Chatham-Kent keep trusting their police service.

He acknowledged that this process would reinforce accountability, strengthen integrity, and build public trust in policing.

“Public trust is fragile and when something like this occurs, it understandably raises questions for the public. The reputational impact is shared by us all, integrity is at the core of policing, trust is built slowly and lost quickly,” said the chief.

The review will focus on key areas within all Ontario police services, including supervision practices, member screening and vetting, database access controls, substance abuse issues, member wellness support, and evidence management procedures.

“We have been clear about our direction as an organization. We are committed to building trust through transparency, fair practices, and a culture where accountability is embraced, not avoided. Our community has high expectations and we welcome that.” Chief Earley said. “The Chatham-Kent Police Service is committed to meeting those expectations every day through professionalism, ethical conduct, and a constant respect for the trust our community places in us. Our shared goal is to provide the highest level of service to the people of Chatham-Kent.”
