The Gray Sauble Conservation Basis’s Malcolm Kirk Environmental Award is making a world impression via the work of Alex Adair, a 19-year-old conservationist from Owen Sound.

In 2023, Adair acquired the $2,000 award, which helped him pursue a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology and Conservation on the College of Guelph and conduct crucial analysis overseas.

Adair, deeply rooted in Gray Bruce’s pure landscapes, has been an energetic conservation advocate. His native efforts embrace working as an Assistant Fisheries Technician with the Ministry of Pure Assets and Forestry, volunteering as a Turtle Tracker, and serving as a Steward for Ontario Nature.

This summer season, Adair expanded his conservation work internationally, becoming a member of a College of Guelph-led analysis group in Madagascar’s Ankarafantsika Nationwide Park. For 3 months, he collected information on critically endangered lemurs, analyzed parasite masses, and carried out behavioural research in one of many world’s most biodiverse however threatened ecosystems.

Madagascar’s lemurs face extreme threats from deforestation, poaching, and local weather change, with 98 p.c of species prone to extinction. Adair’s work underscores the pressing want for conservation efforts domestically and globally.

“The Malcolm Kirk Environmental Award from the Grey Sauble Conservation Foundation, along with other local and provincial supports, have helped me pursue my education in wildlife biology and make a real impact,” stated Adair. “I encourage anyone passionate about conservation and supporting young environmentalists to consider donating to the Grey Sauble Conservation Foundation. Their support helps future environmentalists who are passionate about protecting our natural world.”

The Gray Sauble Conservation Basis raises funds for conservation initiatives and environmental schooling all through Gray Bruce. Donations assist assist awards just like the Malcolm Kirk Environmental Award and packages delivered by the Gray Sauble Conservation Authority.
