This year, Labour Day is on Monday, Sept. 1 in Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Clarington and throughout Durham Region.
Initially established to celebrate hardworking individuals and provide them with a day off, it has turned into just another working day (with extra pay) for many in the restaurant and tourism industries.
The Durham Region Labour Council will be holding its annual Labour Day Picnic at Memorial Park to honor workers’ contributions. The event will feature music, fun activities for kids like face painting, hotdogs, and ice cream.

Many restaurants will be open, especially those with patios. It’s best to call ahead to confirm.
