New faculties are coming to Durham Area.
The province is investing $53.9-million within the DDSB for 2 faculties in Whitby, $58.7-million for 2 new faculties and college enlargement in Oshawa and $27-million for one new faculty in Clarington.
MPP for Durham Todd McCarthy says the Oshawa and Clarington initiatives will assist the creation of 1,887 scholar areas and 49 childcare areas in Oshawa and Clarington.
“Today’s announcement is great news for our community and demonstrates our Government’s commitment to ensure our children are able to learn and play in safe spaces that will help them to reach their full potential both now and into the future” stated McCarthy. “Young students attending the new Northglen Catholic Elementary, Kedron #1 Catholic, and the Symington Avenue Public School will benefit as they learn in modern schools that get students back-to-basics with hands-on learning to be better prepared for the jobs of the future.”
Highlights of those initiatives embody:
• A $27.6-million funding within the Durham Catholic District College Board for a brand new Kedron #1 Catholic Elementary College to be positioned at a web site to be acquired in Oshawa, creating 622 scholar areas.
• A $3.4-million funding within the Durham Catholic District College Board for an addition to the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic College positioned at 1425 Coldstream Drive in Oshawa, creating 138 scholar areas.
• A $27.7-million funding within the Durham District College Board for a brand new Symington Ave and Steeplechase Road Public College to be positioned at Symington Avenue & Steeplechase Road in Oshawa, creating 634 scholar areas.
• A $27.0-million funding within the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District College Board for a brand new Northglen Catholic Elementary College to be positioned at Center Street & Northglen Blvd in Clarington, creating 493 scholar areas and 49 childcare areas.
In the meantime, Whitby MPP Lorne Coe introduced the creation of 1,268 elementary scholar areas and 49 licensed childcare areas in Whitby with the brand new Maskell Crescent and Coronation Street Public College and the brand new Cisco Drive and Limoges Road Public College.
“Building new public, Catholic, and francophone schools is a top priority for me and hard-working families in Whitby,” stated Coe. “It’s great news that the Ontario Government through the leadership of Minister Lecce is creating modern state-of-the-art schools so that all students can have a better learning environment. These two state-of-the-art schools will address the growth in the student population in West Whitby, allowing for thousands of Whitby students and their families to access quality education and childcare closer to home. Since 2018, our government has approved $67-million in new capital investments for 3 new schools in Whitby, and we have completed 2 new schools plus 4 additions or retrofits with an investment of $27.7-million.”
Highlights of the initiatives embody:
• A $30.5-million funding for the brand new Maskell Crescent and Coronation Street Public College at a web site to be acquired in Whitby, creating 634 elementary scholar areas and 49 licensed childcare areas.
• A $23.4-million funding for the brand new Cisco Drive and Limoges Road Elementary College at a web site to be acquired in Whitby, creating 634 elementary scholar areas
