As a young Whitby baseball player begins a long journey of healing from an injury, an online fundraiser is looking to help out his family.

According to the organizer of the GoFundMe campaign, Oli Campbell was hurt during a ‘freak baseball accident’ on September 14.

Campbell plays on the Canadians with the Whitby Minor Baseball Association.

Campbell, who plays first base, collided with the catcher.

He was taken to SickKids Hospital with skull fractures, brain bleeds and a brain clot.

He is expected to undergo surgery on October 7.

“Oli is truly one of a kind,” wrote Erin Hill. “A gentle giant with a kind heart. To know him is to instantly love him. The outpouring of love and concern is a testament to Oli and the amazing young man that he is.”
