A man has lost his life and two others were hospitalized following a single-vehicle accident in Whitby early Friday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Emergency services responded to the off-ramp on Highway 401 eastbound toward Brock Street around 2:55 a. m. after receiving reports of a vehicle rollover.

A 23-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, as per OPP reports. Authorities say two other passengers-a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman-were taken to the hospital but are in non-life-threatening condition.

The off-ramp leading to Brock Street will stay closed on Friday until road sign repairs are finished by the Ministry of Transportation. However, the on-ramp and all lanes of Highway 401 in that area remain open.

“We’re asking motorists to avoid the area if possible, but we are hoping to reopen the ramp shortly,” said OPP acting Sgt. Nicola Morris.

An investigation into the collision is currently underway, according to investigators.
