Waterloo Regional councillors will likely be digging for solutions after tons of of hundreds of {dollars} of corn was destroyed at a Wilmot farm.
The Battle for Farmland group gathered exterior a Wilmot Township council assembly final month after a social media put up, allegedly exhibiting the corn crop being plowed underneath, was posted on-line.
The social media put up garnered hundreds of views and spiked the ire of group members throughout the area.
Vice-Chair of the Grand River Environmental Community Kevin Thomason advised Ontario Chronicle Kitchener the crop was only some weeks away from harvest.
Now councillors wish to know why it occurred.
The crop destruction got here because the Area of Waterloo is making an attempt to accumulate 770 acres of rural land. The corn crop was on land that’s a part of the plan to develop a “shovel-ready site” for future growth.
