In a push to make their houses safer, a neighborhood house surveillance firm says extra residents are putting in safety cameras on their properties.

Waterloo Regional Police Companies stated 568 residential break and enters have been reported up to now this 12 months, whereas Guelph Police have 130 on file.

Each police forces say the figures are noticeable drop-offs from the 12 months earlier than, however Excellence Safety Inc. proprietor Jon Kuiper says that’s not stopping residents from taking added precautions.

“We’ve seen a large increase in demand,” Kuiper instructed Ontario Chronicle.

Kuiper says his firm installs cameras at 5 to twenty houses per week.

“It depends on the client’s needs and the scale of the systems we’re going to do,” Keiper stated. “There’s many layers you have to build to make a real secure property.”

Guelph Police says simply the sight of cameras in your property could possibly be sufficient to show trespassers away.

“The thought that people would be captured on camera doing these break and enters may cause them to think twice about that particular property,” stated Scott Tracey with the Guelph Police Service. “I do think there’s a deterrent effect of having a visible camera.”

The Guelph Police Service began a voluntary surveillance digital camera registry that householders can be part of. Greater than 200 houses are at present on the record, doubtlessly giving investigators a head begin.

“[We] call that person up and say, ‘Hey we’re investigating this type of occurrence. It happened close to your house. Any chance that you have any footage?’” Tracey stated. “Then it would be up to the person at that point whether or not to share.”

Kuiper says the most effective issues these methods provide householders is peace of thoughts.

“Make sure that those guys don’t target your place,” Kuiper stated. “Maybe they’ll go somewhere easier.”
