Intense Sunday storm brings winds, rain to Waterloo Region, tornado warnings and damage to Fergus area

An uncommon November storm introduced twister warnings to areas close to Waterloo Area on Sunday evening.

In response to 570’s Meteorologist Jill Taylor, a quickfire storm ripped by means of Waterloo Area and the Guelph space, exhibiting flashes of lightning and powerful thunder.

The storm started simply earlier than 10 p.m., and by 10:30 p.m. robust winds and heavy rain have been pelting Waterloo Area.

In response to Waterloo Regional Police, at round 10:50 p.m. a automobile struck a downed tree that was knocked over by the storm in Woolwich Township on the intersection of Sandy Hills Drive and Northfield Drive. The storm continued east in direction of the Guelph space, and prompted a twister warning close to Fergus.

“This was pretty impressive, with radar indicating weak tornado signatures in the area of Fergus, near Elora as well,” defined Taylor. “There was some pretty intense activity in that area.”

Taylor added that there have been unconfirmed studies of harm resulting from robust winds within the Fergus space, together with to buildings, automobiles, bushes and hydro traces.

By 11 p.m., the storm was hitting Caledon and Bolton, bringing robust winds to the sting of the Larger Toronto Space.

“We do get thunderstorms at this time of year, but a little bit unusual to get that activity with those tornadic signatures,” mentioned Taylor. “It was pretty impressive last night, and we did have quite a line of storms that moved through.”

For Monday, extra storm exercise is on the best way for areas north of Waterloo Area, with Setting Canada issuing a particular climate assertion for municipalities on the shores of Lake Huron.
