A 22-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being hit by a GO Transit bus while walking on Monday afternoon in Waterloo.

The injuries sustained by the pedestrian are not deemed life-threatening, according to a news release from Waterloo Regional Police. They noted that the incident occurred around 12:45 p. m. on Phillip Street, situated between Columbia Street West and University Avenue West.

The driver of the bus, a 57-year-old man from Mississauga, did not suffer any physical injuries, police reported.

Authorities mentioned that the pedestrian was transported via ambulance to a hospital outside of the region for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The area where the collision took place was closed off for several hours as police conducted their investigation, which is still ongoing.

Police stated that their traffic services unit is looking into this “serious collision.”

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has dash-cam footage is encouraged to contact police at 519-570-9777.
