A bunch of College of Waterloo college students and neighborhood members have established an encampment on campus to protest the battle in Gaza.


The group arrange fencing, chairs and tents outdoors the Graduate Home Monday morning to rally for divestment by launching the so-called “Gaza House Encampment.”


Occupy College of Waterloo (Occupy UW), the coed group behind the encampment, says they “follow in the footsteps of the three other active encampments at Ontario universities demanding divestment from Israel’s genocide on Gaza.”


Protestors say they do not plan on leaving till their calls for are met.


“We’re going to remain right here till our calls for are met and they’re very fundamental human rights calls for. We wish the college to reveal all of their investments,” mentioned Nicholas Joseph, media liaison for the protestors.


The group claims the college invests with firms which have relations with Israel-affiliated weapons and arms producers.


Occupy UW launched an inventory of calls for which embody having the college declare help for a direct ceasefire.

‘Deeply disturbing’


Jewish campus group Hillel Ontario calls the protest “deeply disturbing” for Jewish Canadians.


“What we’re seeing now with indicators of intifada and globalize the resistance, these are violent manifestations of actual world conflicts which can be being imposed on Jewish college students on campuses in Ontario,” mentioned Jay Solomon, chief development officer with Hillel Ontario.
