Police are looking into a tragic drowning that took place in Wasaga Beach, Ont., which is about 20 kilometres northwest of Barrie.

The Ontario Provincial Police reported that emergency services were called to a home on River Road East in Wasaga Beach at around 1:05 p. m. after receiving reports of a kayaker who was missing.

A 24-year-old man from Toronto had been kayaking with two friends when their kayak capsized.

The Wasaga Beach Fire Department found the man and began efforts to revive him before he was rushed to the hospital, where he was later declared dead.

Out of respect for his family, police have not disclosed the man’s name.

In a separate incident, a three-year-old also drowned on Saturday in Long Sault, Ont., located about 100 kilometres southeast of Ottawa.
