A 30-year-old man from Wasaga Beach was arrested at a coffee shop and is facing several charges, according to the OPP.
This Wasaga Beach resident is now dealing with charges for property damage, mischief, disturbing the peace, and assaulting a police officer following an incident that took place at a Collingwood coffee shop.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Collingwood and The Blue Mountains reported that officers were called to the coffee shop on First Street around 4 p. m. on May 27.
Authorities received reports of a man throwing rocks at vehicles passing by and damaging the entrance to the establishment.
“Upon arrival, officers attempted to speak with the suspect, who resisted arrest and assaulted an officer during the incident,” states the news release. “The officer sustained a notable eye injury and was treated at a local hospital before being released.”
James Blackmore, 32, from Wasaga Beach has been arrested and charged with:
Assault a Peace Officer – Section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Resist Peace Officer – Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code
Mischief – Destroys or Damages Property – Section 430(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Causing a Disturbance – Section 175(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
Public Intoxication – Section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence and Control Act
The suspect was released from custody and is expected to appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on June 24, 2025.
