The story of an Ontario woman who vanished four years ago after being kidnapped might be connected to Quebec and the United Arab Emirates.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) shared these possible connections on Monday, marking the anniversary of Elnaz Hajtamiri’s disappearance.

Hajtamiri was taken from a home on Trailwood Place in Wasaga Beach by three suspects around 8:30 p. m. on January 12, 2022. The then 37-year-old was abducted by three individuals wearing balaclavas and fake police uniforms; they escaped in a white Lexus RX SUV.

On Monday, OPP mentioned that their investigation has also uncovered possible links to Timmins and the Greater Toronto Area.

Despite several arrests related to this case, Hajtamiri has not been found.

“Elnaz’s family and friends have endured years of missed memories, celebrations and holidays without her and we remain committed to finding the answers they deserve,” said Det. Insp. Steven Martell in a news release Monday.

“While we cannot speak to the specific ties our investigation has to several regions, we know someone in those areas has information that could help and urge them to come forward.”

A few weeks prior to her kidnapping, Hajtamiri was assaulted in an underground parking garage with a frying pan. Officers responded to the December 20, 2011 incident in Richmond Hill, Ont., near Yonge Street and Bantry Avenue. She was taken to the hospital while the assailants fled before police arrived.

Four suspects were identified and charged related to that attack, including her ex-boyfriend Mohamad Lilo, who was also charged in 2022 with attempted murder and kidnapping.

This year, three more suspects were arrested. Through their investigation, police identified Sukhpreet Singh as a suspect linked to the underground parking garage assault and issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

He was apprehended in Texas thanks to assistance from various agencies including United States Marshals Service, Homeland Security, Austin Police Department, and immigration enforcement.

Singh is facing charges of aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He remains behind bars according to authorities.

A combined reward of $100,000 is being offered by the provincial government along with York Regional Police for any information that could lead authorities back to Hajtamiri’s location.

If anyone has information regarding this case they’re encouraged to reach out directly to police.
