Wasaga Beach’s well-known waterfront is set to undergo a big transformation, as Sunray Group has revealed plans to construct a high-end Marriott hotel on Beach Drive at Beach Area 1.

The investment, exceeding $45 million, will bring about a four-phase development close to the town’s main beach and tourist center. The first phase, expected to kick off construction in early 2026, will feature a hotel with 120 rooms that includes an upscale restaurant, facilities for weddings and conferences, retail spaces, and wellness amenities such as fitness areas or pools.

Ray Gupta, CEO of Sunray Group, returned to familiar territory to announce this exciting news alongside Mayor Brian Smith and members of Town Council. “I have amazing memories of family vacations spent enjoying the beach and the sun,” said Gupta. “Those early experiences gave me a lasting appreciation for this vibrant beach community.”

This development is seen as a significant step towards making Wasaga Beach a top year-round destination.

“Today, Sunray Group has confirmed they will build a Marriott hotel next to our spectacular beachfront,” said Mayor Smith. “This historic investment will complement smaller family-owned inns and restaurants in our community. It represents local jobs, higher-value tourism and multi-day visits to Wasaga Beach.”

Alongside the hotel project, Sunray Group plans to invest $1.5 million towards creating a new Festival Square – an adaptable outdoor events area intended for concerts, markets and other community activities.

The Town and Sunray have also made arrangements for future phases of development which may include residential units associated with Marriott. These would offer homeowners the chance to rent their properties out following a model similar to what’s found at Village at Blue Mountain.

This announcement builds on recent provincial support aimed at boosting tourism in the region. Just days ago, Premier Doug Ford pledged $38 million toward improving tourism infrastructure in Wasaga Beach.

As one of Ontario’s fastest-growing municipalities, town officials view this project as an opportunity to support local businesses while attracting global brands and crafting lasting experiences for residents and visitors alike. Gupta reiterated that vision: “Sunray Group looks forward to delivering a Marriott hotel experience… that will serve the town’s full-time residents, delight its over two million visitors and cement the town’s position as a spectacular Canadian destination.”
