It wasn’t a surprise visit from the thought police.

It was actually a police officer from Ontario Provincial Police.

If George Orwell had penned his famous Nineteen Eighty-Four in 2024, he might have picked Wasaga Beach as his setting for a dystopian tale.

Natasha, known as Natty Lynn on Tik Tok, could be seen as a modern-day Winston Smith.

“Somebody called about someone posting things on Tik Tok regarding East Indians defecating on the beach,” she remembered hearing from a very polite officer after opening her door.Beachgoers at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.Beachgoers at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. The officer wasn’t there for domestic violence or a theft or even a missing child or medical issue.

Nope, they were there to discuss a social media post with Natasha.

Natasha shared videos cautioning families about potential unsanitary behavior at Wasaga’s beaches where she claimed some individuals were using tents to hide while going to the bathroom and then burying their waste in the sand.

The mention of immigrants being responsible stirred some emotions – including those of Mayor Brian Smith of Wasaga Beach.

“The Town of Wasaga Beach takes all resident and visitor feedback seriously,” Smith stated last month on their website.

“However, we reject complaints lacking evidence that spread misinformation … The Town is proud to host one of the world’s longest freshwater beaches – among the cleanest, safest, and most beautiful beaches globally” adding “the town hasn’t received any proof – whether it’s residents or visitors or even from Ontario government – verifying that any unsanitary behavior has occurred within areas making up Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.”

Tik Tok ended up shutting down both her videos and Natty Lynn’s account after some users raised concerns about discrimination involved. This is something she strongly denies as someone who identifies with Aboriginal heritage while also having an Indian heritage child herself.

The real surprise was having police visit her home regarding this matter. Is this proper protocol or an overreach? It felt like Big Brother wasn’t just outside her door but inside giving advice on what should be said when posting online for everyone to see.

“I was told to change how I phrase things,” Natasha explained. “I felt like they were trying to intimidate me.”

The single mother never imagined she’d find herself facing such scrutiny leading them all this way where authorities would get involved like this over her posts online.

“I was shocked,” she told .

This isn’t unheard of in Ontario; however it’s still quite alarming.

Simplistically put: while Winston Smith feared writing his personal thoughts down because he worried about repercussions; here was Natasha facing authorities due solely because she posted vlogs sharing opinions.

“I feel like that was their warning,” she remarked.

The OPP have yet responded when asked for comments.“AnAn OPP officer came discussing matters concerning social media posts regarding possible sanitary issues. Photo by @itsnattylxnn2/Tik Tok

Additonally , in another video captured by Natasha , the OPP official noted saying “I personally haven’t received calls regarding this type behavior occurring at beaches” plus “I’m not here lecturing anyone nor condemning people,” advising them against confronting anyone seen doing such actions regardless if it’s white black or anything else”.

The Officer suggested possibly avoiding mentioning race altogether- stating if something happens along these lines maybe encourage folks call bylaws instead.
