Ontario Premier Doug Ford is responding to claims of individuals defecating on Wasaga Seashore.

On Wednesday, throughout an unrelated press convention, Ford was requested about rumours of individuals defecating within the sand. 

“Folks, don’t be pooping on the beach. Simple as that. We have no proof of it either,” he mentioned to reporters. 

Final month, a TikTok person went viral for talking on the problem, emphasizing that it’s been an ongoing downside for the seaside for years now. 

The person mentioned individuals would arrange tents and use the sand as a bathroom. 

“As a local, I refuse to let my kids dig in the sand on the beach,” she mentioned within the video.

Weeks later, the City of Wasaga Seashore launched a press release rejecting the rumours, calling them “complaints that lack evidence and promote misinformation.”

“The town has received no evidence – from residents, visitors or the Ontario government – to verify that any undesirable, unsanitary behaviour has occurred on the beach areas that make up Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. If any evidence comes to light, I assure you that we will be quick to act,” the city mentioned in a press release on July 22. 

Final Monday, the city’s mayor Brian Smith revealed that the city’s popularity was being “gravely harmed” by these claims from each locals and vacationers throughout a particular council assembly. 

Consequently, Smith made a movement calling on the province and different ministers to put money into Wasaga Seashore Provincial Park. 

The mayor seeked provincial guidelines for banning tents on the seaside, enhancements to its rubbish can assortment course of, higher washroom services, in addition to elevated restore and upkeep.

As well as, the city can be asking for extra provincial park wardens to implement guidelines and impose stricter and better fines for these breaking the foundations. 

Nonetheless, Ford mentioned he disagrees with banning tents in provincial parks.

“If we ban tents in provincial parks, that’s just not going to cut it across the board. You can’t pick and choose,” he mentioned on the press convention.

Ford additionally talked about at the moment that he has given the city $1 million in funding to construct bogs and rent extra employees to deal with the problem.
