From Dufferin Road to Main Mackenzie Drive, to stretches of Rutherford Street, motorists are discovering development and visitors backlogs throughout Vaughan, as initiatives are squeezing the scale of streets.

“I’m dreading it and always running late,” one driver instructed Ontario Chronicle Toronto Wednesday.

“It’s terrible,” mentioned one other.

This yr alone, Vaughan could have 17 development initiatives on the go. Whereas many are projected to be accomplished by the tip of this yr, some gained’t be executed till as late as 2025.

The initiatives embrace street widening, intersection enhancements, new culverts and changing a bridge.

Vaughan is a fast-growing metropolis. Mayor Steven Del Duca mentioned whereas a ton of restore and growth work must get executed — approvals had been made by the earlier council.

He mentioned in some areas, it doesn’t really feel like there’s been sufficient coordination or communication with residents.

“There’s a lot of work that’s underway all at the time. I’ve heard from constituents they are angry, they’re frustrated – I get it. I’m convinced there’s a way for us to do this better going forward. And as a new mayor, my commitment is that we don’t end up in this situation again,” Del Duca mentioned.

Salim Alibhai, York Area’s Director of Capital Planning and Supply at Public Works, instructed Ontario Chronicle Toronto the upgrades are occurring in a number of the most congested areas in Vaughan.

He mentioned when doable, work is being executed at night time and through off-peak instances.

“We do plan our work, [and] we partner with investments others are making,” Alibhai mentioned. “We need to do this work as quickly as possible and get out of people’s way. We get that.”

For these navigating the development, persistence is essential. Some argue the all-at-once strategy will make getting round simpler down the street.
