Authorities have identified 65-year-old Sergio Lopez as the victim of a shooting that occurred in broad daylight in Vaughan.
Law enforcement confirmed that a resident from York Region, aged 65, has been named as the individual who lost his life during Monday’s shooting incident in Vaughan.
Officers were dispatched to Winges and Rowntree Dairy roads shortly after 1 p. m. following reports of multiple gunshots fired at a commercial plaza.
They discovered a man outside a local business with several gunshot wounds, according to police.
He was quickly taken to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Sergio Lopes from Richmond Hill.
Investigators believe this incident was “targeted.”
While officers worked on the shooting investigation, they received another report about a black SUV ablaze on Kipling Avenue, north of Woodbridge Avenue. This SUV matched the description of a vehicle that had fled from the shooting scene. Investigators have confirmed that it was indeed the same vehicle involved.
At the time of the fire, the vehicle was empty and there were no reported injuries.
Details regarding potential suspects have not yet been disclosed by police.
“Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone who may have security video from the area is asked to come forward,” York Regional Police stated in a news release issued Wednesday.
