Former Ontario Liberal Occasion Chief Steven Del Duca might be operating to change into the subsequent mayor of Vaughan, Ont.

In an announcement Tuesday, he says he made the choice to affix the race for mayor after taking time to re-evaluate his political future following his resignation from the get together’s high job.

In June, the previous Liberal chief stepped down because the get together’s chief on election evening after failing to win again the driving of Vaughan-Woodbridge north of Toronto within the provincial election whereas his get together gained simply eight seats. 

Del Duca might be registering as a candidate Tuesday morning, his spokesperson confirmed with CBC Toronto.

“I am actually excited concerning the race [and] I am taking nothing with no consideration. I am simply going to work actually, actually exhausting,” Del Duca instructed CBC Toronto on Tuesday.

“I do love this neighborhood and I’m completely enthusiastic about public service.”

In June, Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua introduced that he would not be in search of a fourth time period in workplace. Del Duca says he had the possibility to “work intently” with Bevilacqua, who was a Liberal MP earlier than turning into mayor.

Del Duca, who beforehand served because the province’s transportation minister and financial growth minister, is pledging to combat the rising metropolis’s visitors woes. He says his expertise as transportation minister offers him a bonus to combat the “visitors gridlock disaster” in Vaughan.

“We have had extraordinary development on this neighborhood and we want a transportation community that can truly sustain with that development and assist be sure that folks have a robust high quality of life,” Del Duca mentioned. 

“I believe I am the one that can ship that type of community.”

Del Duca lives in Woodbridge, Ont., along with his spouse, two daughters and two canines.

Former NDP chief Andrea Horwath introduced final month she can be operating for mayor of Hamilton.

Horwath additionally stepped down after the June provincial election regardless of her get together returning to official opposition standing for a second straight time period within the legislature. She led the provincial NDP for 13 years.

Ontario’s municipal elections are set to be held on October 24.
